The 65′ dragger KATHERINE was launched June 10, 1975 as the last of the Newbert & Wallace draggers.

In this post, Part 2, of this Newbert & Wallace series, we’ll see how an Eastern-rigged dragger was put together of wood. KATHERINE is the last of her breed to be built by the firm and, lucily, the process was photographed by Thomaston neighbor Frank Schroeder. This round-sterned vessel is a near sister to Mystic Seaport’s ROANN, which we’ll visit in Part 3.

There was a video out, a long time ago, called The Ways of Wallace and Sons. I think it was distributed by Mystic. I lost my copy and have been trying to get another for years. If you could find one it would be a great addition to this story. Thanks for the story Maynard

Whoever the neighbor photographer was, he or she deserves a medal for excellence. Fantastic documentation of the build. I love OCH videos, but these stills are terrific, I keep going back over and over, poring over the amazing details in this massively built craft. Thanks again, Maynard.
