Off Center Harbor's Remarks

(Was $14,500) This kind of boat is rare these days. A lovely gaff yawl that has been maintained well enough to hold onto her good looks and is in good enough shape to take a couple off to a succession of memorable summer cruises, but not so fancy everyone has to take their shoes off before going aboard. And all at a great price. Sure, there will be sanding and painting to do, but to keep her going at her present level doesn’t seem like a deal breaking challenge. Like we said, these kind of boats are kinda rare these days.

Aeolus was designed by Leigh Coolidge, a contemporary of Ted Geary, who also designed the Lake Union Dreamboat. She is planked with Fir on Oak frames with Fir decks. She was built in 1932 by Lake Union Boatyard or Schetzer’s Boatyard. She was re-fastened below the waterline in 2005 and had recent haul and rework in 2017.. She has a Westerbeke 21HP 3 cylinder diesel (1700hrs) and a new rebuilt transmission. Her Mizzen is new from 2008 (Port Townsend Sails – Carol Hasse), rebuilt Jib in 2004 (Port Townsend Sails – Carol Hasse), Main and Staysail are older but serviceable (Port Townsend Sails – Carol Hasse). The Jib furls on a Shaeffer System 650 and the Staysail is club footed and self-tending. The spars are all solid spruce and the rigging is 1×19 stainless with new chainplates in 2004. Aeolus has bronze hardware and Barlow winches. She has full covers (full boat and summer covers) from 2005 (Artful Dodger) and a new Dodger in 2006 (Artful Dodger).

For ground tackle she has a 35# CQR and 200′ chain plus a 21# Danforth with 20′ chain and rope rode. The windlass is a manual Simpson Lawrence Gear Windlass.

Aeolus is a beautiful yawl and just returned from sailing the San Juan Islands. She’s turn-key and ready to sail!
