I am not certain that a boat with only 6 planks merits a Whisky Plank ceremony – but I’ll take it. Winter temperatures, distractions and life in general have resulted in taking far too long in reaching this stage but I am hopeful that Thistle will see water this summer. Building so far has been rewarding, more so as the boat takes shape. I have acquired the majority of the materials I will need with happy surprises being a 12 foot knot-free 2 X 12 which made a lovely mast and a 10 foot piece of clear, tight grained Douglas Fir hiding in the pile of SPF 2X10s both at the big box lumber store.
