Off Center Harbor's Remarks
A beautiful design in great, mostly original condition. Not much more you could ask of an 18-foot classic daysailer.
Description from Boat's Main Listing
This boat is currently only listed on Off Center Harbor
Mitzi is a classic easy to sail gaff-rig sloop built in 1967. She was designed by R.D. Culler in collaboration with Waldo Howland, the son of a whaling family and founder of Concordia Co. boatyard, in South Dartmouth Mass. Their Sloop Boat is constructed of cedar on oak frame with spruce mast and spars. The simple rigging, without shrouds, and having a flying jib lends itself to easy setup and sailing. The traditional lines, graceful sheer, and strong stem and backbone make this boat a reliable, fun, eye-catching vessel. She may be suited with her original cotton tanbark sails or her new set made by Traditional Rigging’s Dayle Ward of Appelton ME.
Mystic Seaport’s records of Concordia Co. list Mitzi (first launched under the name Lagniappe) as being one of twenty-three such sloops. Her pedigree is well preserved with most of her original build intact including her woodblocks, cleats, spruce oars, and stout mast.
She is complete with custom tilt trailer, in good condition and ready to sail.
