Preview: A 1955 Floating Caravan (aka Houseboat)

Here’s a 60-year-old idea that would work today. It’s lightweight, and the concept is simple enough to build yourself out of plywood. It even has an outboard motor well! This one is rather boxy, but with sheer, flare, and some other aesthetic refinements, I think it could look pretty good.

Calm water or canal cruising only.
I just love the car! Looks like the 1938 Vauxhall 25 my family owned in the 1950’s.
The outboard motor looks like a ‘British Anzani’, not a Seagull.

Seagull exhaust is really bad. Loaded with oil smoke. All motor exhaust, even little 4 stroke new motors, no matter what must be outside the enclosed living space.

what a treat! My guess on the exhaust…those fumes weren’t bad for you back then! was that one of those old gull outboards?

Uh, I have questions. If the outboard motor is mounted inside, is the exhaust inside as well? Is that why everyone is sitting on top? Or does the motor have an underwater exhaust?
