Bear Mountain Boats is the source of countless strip-built canoes, built via simple plans plus basic materials and tools. Their methods have kept wooden canoe culture – not to mention the boats – alive and active well into the 21st century.
The full story of Bear Mountain Boats is a brilliant story of creative partnership and a profound reflection on craft, culture, and tradition, and the documentary takes a couple of unexpected turns involving canoes in Belize and woodworker and TV star Nick Offerman.
We hope you enjoy this surprising documentary as much as we have…

Absolutely Amazing Craftsmanship in these Beautiful Pieces of Art. I have worked with many different species of wood in manufacturing solid timber Furniture.
But since I have retired I have a Big Interest in building a beautiful sailboat 11’ 6” , But I am a bit slow on getting it done.
I also have the plans for a Cedar Strip Canoe and for a Stand Up Paddleboard. I still have most of my machines in my shed and a lot of timber to keep me busy with the “ Work In Progress “.
Just wondering how I can Subscribe to your channel for further information on these Beautiful Canoes, I am to old to start a business with the making of the Canoecraft as I can only work on them for a few hours a day. Back problems been my main issue.
So can I subscribe to your channel for some more info about the way you build your Canoe’s .
What I have seen so far is Really Interesting and very informative too. Thank you so much, Graeme Harrison, from Queensland, Australia.

As a life long paddler this was a most enjoyed video. I am an amateur boat builder in the truest sense of the word. I have built two cedar strip canoes designed by Nick Shade, they always garner comments on their beauty along with people telling me what a good craftsman I am, if only. I’ve built stich and glue and skin on frame but these boats are favorites. Thanks for a great video.

One of the best videos from away you have shared. Patience and creative perseverance shows how much we can do.
Thanks

Thank you for including this in the OCH Video Library. It reminds me how all small boats are related to one another. We should not forget that L. Francis Herreshoff said that of all the boats one could own the double paddle canoe was the most fun for the money.
