Preview: Chasing Light with Wyman Meinzer

So fine to watch a man who’s undergone such a profound transformation, in such a fury. Wild life. Transformative work.

Stick with it, for the full story.

BEHIND THE SCENES: As with all of the Flotsam videos on the site, this was produced by others, but the crew behind the making of this short film in Texas had a role in inspiring the success of Off Center Harbor.

This video leaves a deep impression and reminds me of the “Big Sky Country”, I was travelling through in my younger days. Driving my old rusted station- wagon way West on hwy.26, passing Dubois Wy (pop. 5 !) and the Wind River Range on my way to the Grand Tetons.
Thanks for wandering off the path once in a while !

As a long-time hunter of quail and pheasants with pointing dogs in Kansas and an artist, I really appreciated this video and Mr. Meinzer’s remarkable story. The stark beauty of wild, wide open places, especially in the light of dawn and dusk, can be magical. Just as sunlight on water experienced from a wooden boat can be. I am presently building my second canoe and hope to take it with me on my annual trip to Minnesota’s boundary waters this year. Wonderful video! Thank you OCH.

I admire this type of photography since it portrays the absolute beauty of the land. I am an “amateur” photographer and have traveled the US and gotten some incredible pictures of it and I continue to be amazed at the beauty of this country. Thanks for a great video.

Wyman is a friend and this is a fine video.

But I was surprised to find it amongst the OCH materials.

What drove the choice to diverge from boats only?

Thanks Rick. We wander off the path to the boat every once in awhile when we see something that inspires us. In this case, some of my old compatriots in Texas who created this video put it on my radar a few months ago, and it simmered there until the theme of todays’s email surfaced it again.

Hope I can get down to your shop some day. being from Texas I still miss the feel of the land and its people — yet another reason behind the here and now of this video.

I don’t know Wyman but I do know Rick and Steve and having grown up on the periphery of the area shown in the excellent video – and done a lot of boating in that area, believe it or not, I want to thank all involved for providing it through OCH. Very nicely done.

Oh yes, the sprite of wondering off the path. I get the connection the toughness of a sailor, fisherman, builder… the hard work, long hours, toughing thru in extreme weather, killing the next meal,or months of meals, living thru the day, perhaps without a good sleep or any, learning to sense what’s ahead, confidence, ruggedness. What totally took me by surprise, the shift from trigger-shutter button. How sensitively Wyman defended the shift, speaking of the satisfaction brought by the wolfs call deep into the night . Some rugged guy. I’ll be looking for more about the Meinzer family life. Bet there’s something buried over UTube .
