Follow along with Peter Slack’s ongoing series about the restoration of COASTAL QUEEN, a Chesapeake Bay Buy Boat built in 1928 and modified in the late 1950s to a cruising yacht. The series follows the process from the bottom up, as a new keel, keelson and cross planking are needed to support this massive structure.
April 13, 2023 – COASTAL QUEEN Restoration Project – Episode 18: STEEL
The steel floors are cut, and fared to fit over the stringers and attach to the keelson, stringers, and hull ceiling. Caulking continues and mounts are constructed to fit the custom built tankage that will enter the boat shortly.
