COASTAL QUEEN Restoration Project – Episode 26 – The Gyroscope

Follow along with Peter Slack’s ongoing series about the restoration of COASTAL QUEEN, a Chesapeake Bay Buy Boat built in 1928 and modified in the late 1950s to a cruising yacht. The series follows the process from the bottom up, as a new keel, keelson and cross planking are needed to support this massive structure.

February 5, 2024 – COASTAL QUEEN Restoration Project – Episode 26: The Gyroscope

After months and months of prep work to the hull, frames, bulkheads, and overall structure of the Queen, the gyro is lifted up and in the hold. This 3100 lb modern marvel will take a huge crane and several people to carry it safely from the ground and back into place…fitting onto the sea channel over the keelson and steel frame created to secure this mechanical tornado!

Jeff and Todd also give us a refresher course on boat stabilization.
