Follow along with Peter Slack’s ongoing series about the restoration of COASTAL QUEEN, a Chesapeake Bay Buy Boat built in 1928 and modified in the late 1950s to a cruising yacht. The series follows the process from the bottom up, as a new keel, keelson and cross planking are needed to support this massive structure.

Everything below deck is removed to make way for the new keel and cross planking. Shipwrights and carpenters work to “hang” the boat as it will not have the ability to rest on the bottom.
