Follow along with Peter Slack’s ongoing series about the restoration of COASTAL QUEEN, a Chesapeake Bay Buy Boat built in 1928 and modified in the late 1950s to a cruising yacht. The series follows the process from the bottom up, as a new keel, keelson and cross planking are needed to support this massive structure.
August 6, 2024 – COASTAL QUEEN Restoration Project – Episode 33: Stern Post Leaks… and Captain Speaks!
The COASTAL QUEEN has left the building, and launched. She’s still taking on water as new and old wood try to coexist below the waterline. Work is still being done on the interior, top sides, and systems. The additional spar from Schell Custom Boatworks gets rigged on the boat and the “fixer” makes her way down to the QUEEN to give her the finishing touches. The captain is introduced, and soon she will make her journey to Newport for the Launch Party at the Sailing Museum. After the party…she will make her way to Mystic, Connecticut to the largest wooden boat show in the country, where only a Queen can be judged.
