Follow along with Peter Slack’s ongoing series about the restoration of COASTAL QUEEN, a Chesapeake Bay Buy Boat built in 1928 and modified in the late 1950s to a cruising yacht. The series follows the process from the bottom up, as a new keel, keelson and cross planking are needed to support this massive structure.

The Sultana Downrigging Festival is one of the most unique wooden boat festivals in the country. The organizers had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Coastal Queen, and in 2024 it became a reality. Coastal Queen returns close to her birthplace back in the Chesapeake joined at the dock by many familiar working Buyboats, as well as some of the most beautiful tall ships.
