Replica Schooner HERMIONE at Sea, Heading for the US!

This beautiful ship, an authentic replica schooner HERMIONE of the ship that reunited Lafayette and Washington during America’s Revolutionary War and helped the colonists defeat the British, is currently making her way across the Atlantic for a summer of visits along the East Coast. Have a look at this video and see her at sea under full sail.

Then, if you want to see her in person, plan a visit one of her ports of calling. We at OCH are thrilled that she will be stopping in Maine, close to us at Castine.

Here is a link to her website with all the details.

I went to see her in build at Rochefort in 2011. The hull was almost complete and it was great to see the local women who had been trained to spin ropes and make the sails. It was the first time I had seen the French queing for. They are very proud of their maritime heritage.

They have all the guns run out; expecting trouble?

Goose bumps. This video evokes the power of sail, of ships and of the part they have played in human history. And American history, since the arrival of l’Hermione, and her sister ships and the 5000 troops they carried played a pivotal role in our war of independence. No small wonder the Marquis de Lafayette was such a hero to the early American colonists. And what an amazing reproduction this is! Thanks Ben and OCH!
