Our good friend Jim Heumann, of SOCKDOLAGER and RAVEN (and now R2AK-pedal-boat) fame, is producing an ongoing series of oral-history podcasts called Maritime Voices in which he records the stories of notable Port Townsend-area mariners for archiving at the Jefferson County Historical Society.
Jim is a great interviewer and has chosen some heavy hitters for his first interviews including Diana Talley, Sean Rankins, and Jim Tolpin. We’d recommend listening to all six of them, and have posted a good starting point below, Circumnavigator Bill Nance
“Bill Nance is only the 2nd known person to ever sail alone around the world via the three great capes (1962-1965) from west to east. The book “The Circumnavigators” says he was “…one of the boldest and most competent, but least-known circumnavigators, on the tiny 25-foot Cardinal Vertue…”. In this conversation we mostly talk about that voyage, the adventures he had, and the people he met, but we also cover how he ended up in Port Townsend, and a little about what he has done since arriving in 1979.”

Joseph Wl Haley III says:
Is Bill Nance related to Craig Nance of North Florida an Astro-engineer who worked at Keck Observatory ??
