Ralph Stanley – An Eye for Wood

For those curious about the maritime culture of the Maine Coast (And everyone oughta be!) this is as good as it gets. Ralph Stanley–boat builder, designer, sailor, fiddle player, and story teller supreme–was born in 1929 and is still at it. So sit back for an hour as the story of his life spools across the screen in one stunning historical photograph after another.

He was anchored next to us at The Eggemoggin Reach Regatta this past August. We rowed over to say hello. He and his wife were as welcoming, wise and engagingly conversational as you could ask for.

Wow, What a great video. Lucky for me I have been in the presence of both father and son and this film brings back the rush of those moments. Thanks OCH for this Christmas treat.

Wow, didn’t know this was out there. What a great film. I was at his shop in southwest harbor
about 15 years ago. It doesn’t get any better than this. Dave
