My brother’s pizza parties have become legendary amongst many groups of friends and colleagues. As a new hobby born from pandemic boredom, we got him a mobile pizza oven and have reaped the benefits ever since. Whether he’s making 60 pies in an evening for a wedding, a couple dozen for a neighborhood gathering, or teaching others how to make them, it’s always a fun, unique, and delicious experience.
Last summer, with some extra-special boating friends visiting, an idea percolated to smash all of our favorite things together: could we really make pizza while cruising on my sailboat through the San Juan Islands…?
The answer was yes, and it will go down as one of the most memorable evenings of our lives.
Donald Musselman says:
We will be cruising in the San Jaun Islands in late March . Any chance of a pizza then?
Captain Keith Korporaal says:
“Sha-wheat”!! I’m pretty sure it would have been wonderful to be rafted up with the Sailboat Pizzeria!
Harris Bucklin says:
Sweet!

Pizza and sailing with friends…..doesn’t get much better!
scott garven says:
This video reminds me of the wonderful times we had on Miss Toorbul with friends, food, wine and music. Such a beautiful thing to share such an amazing situation.
Kit Laughlin says:
That Ooni oven is the real deal. It can reach 450°C to 500°C (842°F to 932°F), and that means very short cooking times, and those lovely slightly charred crusts. A perfect day.
David Flanders says:
Pretty cool!
Julia Graves says:
I needed this!!! More soulcraft please!
Burke Horner says:
Where’s the Chianti?
Daniel Raycroft says:
It simply doesn’t get any better than this.

What a relief from all of life’s burdens now happening every day to see people so relaxed and otherwise occupied, as far away from the exigencies as one could get. If ever there was a reason to love sailing, it’s expressed in this little video and accompanying song. It’s the kind of thing that keeps me coming back to this website.
Jonathan Lewis says:
If any Off Center Harbor video deserves a liability disclosure, it’s this one. How many degrees is a pizza oven? A wooden boat?? However, it sure looks yummy. Si mangia bene!
David Coulson says:
500 to 900 degrees F
Nate Rooks says:
Yeah… I was wondering who would call that out! We thought about that pretty hard and decided it was at least worth a try. We had fire extinguishers and water buckets close at hand! The open face of the oven is pretty hot, of course, but it actually remains surprisingly cool around the rest.
David Coulson says:
I use mine regularly mounted on a wooden table on my wooden covered porch on my 1913 old wooden home. No concerns at all. Always keep a fire blanket on hand but very safe zero clearance unit.
Jonathan Margolis says:
I’m sorry, and with all due respect, sauce from a JAR? Well, maybe that’s how they do it up in the far Northwest.
Nate Rooks says:
Certain compromises must be made when cruising and cooking, and ease of storage is a big one!
David Coulson says:
My portable propane RoccBox Gozney pizza oven weighs in about 35 pounds but folds up with handy Velcro carry strap
David Coulson says:
There are some nice pestos though in a jar that I would use in a pinch
Gregory DeCowsky says:
Always wear your PFD when cooking on deck.
Nate Rooks says:
Safety first!
