Email This Page to a FriendPreview: Sailing the HMB ENDEAVOUR
January 15, 2015
A fixture of the biannual Australian Wooden Boat Festival is the HMB ENDEAVOUR, a full-size replica of the British Royal Navy vessel that Lieutenant James Cook commanded on his voyage to Australia and New Zealand, from 1769 to 1771 (source). That voyage marked the "the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia (source)."
Not only is she a beautiful living replica, but she regularly sails the Australian coast, and the public can join in the fun, learning to sail, live and sleep like an 18th-century mariner.
