Selecting and Sawing White Oak for the Fore Keel of an 8-Meter Sloop; Two Videos by Fish Hawk Films

Here are a couple of great “Tips From a Shipwright” videos by Fish Hawk Films featuring shipwright Louis Sauzedde that shouldn’t be missed.

The first video is about selecting the right log…

And the second is about sawing that perfect log to best advantage.

The result is a nice piece of oak, clear of the heart, for the fore keel, as well as a slab of vertical-grain oak for floor timbers. Plus a few extra pieces that “might come in handy,” as they say. Terrific stuff, and I believe there’s more to come as Louis Sauzedde fits and fastens the piece to the boat and Fish Hawk videographer Halsey Fulton shoots the process.

You can view more “Tips From a Shipwright” on their You Tube channel.

Thanks so much for the link. The entire “tips” series is fantastic. The beveling ratchet saw video is really interesting. I only wish Sauzedde showed how to make this modified circular saw.
