Preview: The Important Places

Here’s a new short film that’s going to win a lot of awards.

As I plot and plan all year to get my own kids out of achievement-focused lifestyles the big city and into “the important places”, I sometimes wonder if it will make a difference. It’s a wager I make on a story in my head that may take several decades to unfold as fact or fairytale, probably well ater I’m gone.

Thank you for all your good work. This was special. It reminds us to enjoy and appreciate the time spent with loved ones sharing adventures together. It doesn’t matter if it was jumping that first puddle or sailing together through a nasty storm, you now have wonderful memories to enjoy during your twilight years. Life is good, revisit those special times…

Such a powerful and emotional video, I too wiped tears from my eyes. At age 79, I wonder how all of those years passed so quickly. Outstanding video!! Thank you OCH for providing so many wonderful experiences and learning as we watch these videos!!

Fabulous video and a treat to be watching on Father’s Day…..in my 75th year it brought tears to my eyes as well…..well done OCH.

Jeff, I know the feeling…still enjoying being on the Maine coast. Not as exhilarating as the Grand Canyon but right in our backyard….

Not sure how I missed this until now. I loved it – thank you.

  • Nicholas Jack says:

The most moving short film I have ever watched. As a grown man with a father who is 74, it really struck me. I hope I can have his kind of impact on my own son.

    Hey Steve,
I missed this the first time through. A great film. It is the kind of connection – kids-adults-water that all of us who subscribe to OCH love I am sure. Thanks.

Did this at 59 with my 2 early 20’s boys last May. Priceless doesn’t begin to describe. Thank you!

  • Alan Jones says:

What a find Dustin! Thanks for bringing this to us. We need to do everything we can to save what’s still Wild of the Colorado for future generations, and support the groups that fight for this. For additional insight about the river I’d like to recommend “The Emerald Mile” by Kevin Fedarko, an amazing book.

I was one of the chaperones on that 1970 trip. Would like to make contact with Doug or Forest Woodward. By the way, I shed a few tears too!

Wisconsin summers spent on a 21′ Lone Star cabin cruiser… No wonder I love the water so much. Thanks, Mom and Dad. And thanks, OCH, for the reminder.

I love this video. Just 2 years ago I (65) rafted the Salmon River in Idahoe with my daughter ((38). We had a blast and continued our deep connection to nature and each other.
My Dad taught me as I am now teaching my daughter all the things we are all still learning. Thank you for being a source of lives wisdom.

  • Ed Borges says:

Beautiful! I had to wipe a tear or two from my eyes
