We were impressed and intrigued at this video of a full disassembly/reassembly of a Chelsea Ship’s Bell Clock.
Bracken Clockworks, March 2, 2025 – Clock Repair – Vintage Chelsea Ships Bell Clock Overhaul
Ever wonder how a Chelsea Ships Bell Clock works, or what the repair procedure is for one? This video documents the process of overhauling one of these fantastic timepieces.
Eric Takakjian says:
Really interesting to see this. I have a few Chelsea clocks, always wondered about the overhaul process.
David and Margaret Tew says:
Thanks for posting this. We have three Chelsea clocks: a six inch ship’s strike (and barometer) that my grandmother gave me as a college graduation present fifty years ago, bigger non-striking one and an electric US Navy Bakelite one for the boat. The first two need cleaning but work well as is. The last needs new batteries. Given the information in this video I see why Chelsea’s charge for cleaning is so time-consuming, costly and demanding. Their turnaround time is lengthy.
