Started fastening the gunnel guard today. A slow deliberative process.  Total of ~360 #8, 3/4”, Oval head silicon bronze screws and cup washers. Spacing them about 2”apart and then closer in the corners and the bow – high stress/ impact areas.

I’m still concerned with the quality of this guard. The free floating foam insert bothers me. We shall see. The blue painters tape has my drill spacing, after the top row is complete I will “fold over” the guard and repeat 2”,spacing along the bottom edge of the outwale.

The process I work from is I have a section of GG stretched taught, use a light hammer and awl to locate the pilot holes. Drill pilot hole, blow away sawdust, screw in screw and I use a cheapo power screw driver to get the screws seated, then I tighten by hand. I started at the starboard stern and am working my way counter-clockwise up towards the bow ….
