I finished up installing all the fasteners that will be hidden when the guard is rolled over into position.
Now to fasten the guards permanently. This time, I started in the bow and worked my way back towards the stern. Thinking if I had any slack I would be able to get rid of it at the loose end the the guard. High stress areas, 1 1/2” spacing, general areas are 2” spacing. I make a template, for the spacing on painters tape. It works great.

The port side is complete. Came out looking good.

I ordered leather scraps from wooden boat store… not impressed  granted it was properly advertised, I knew I was getting scraps. Unfortunately these were the most “red” pieces,of leather I had ever seen. Nothing close to a saddle  brown or a tan. Then most of the scraps were just that scraps, long stringy piece, sliver here, etc. no to pieces you could really lay side by side And create a pair of something. Anyway, I will use it. Using to finish off the ends off the gunnel  guard.

maybe I will find some leather that is  softer, easier to work, bigger pieces, more saddle color. I am definitely not a great leathersmith
