Having spacer blocks as part of the inwale makes for a little more head scratching. Where can I mount the oarlocks securely when there are 3” gaps? I have epoxied two pieces into an “L” shape. That will be fastened to gunwale, then oarlocks will be fastened to mounting piece. I was just going to make the angle 90 degrees. So the oar lock stands in the same plane as the hull.
I just watched Bob Donaldson’s artistry and he put a bevel into his mounting block. I am intrigued and will explore further. He also went with a longer support block, it looks great how he finished it off.
I used one or two of each type of clamp on the oarlock blocks. Don’t ask me why I did it this way. I have no logical answer. But it looks cool with 8 clamps when I could have done both pieces with maybe 2 clamps each…
8 clamps to hold 4 pieces of wood……
