The choices of lines has become extensive and more complicated.  Making a choice depends on whether strict conformance to traditional is desired, color choices, knowledge of splicing, and cost.

 

A well rigged sailboat has at has nicely sized lines with splices to make everything work easily.  The modern materials (such ad dyneema) are strong and durable, but require additional splicing instruction.

 

No specific suggestions are offered since the choices depend on your preferences.  However, permanently spliced lines make the boat easiest to sail, look good, and make rigging simple.

PS I was away from sailing for a couple of decades and was amazed at the choices now available.
