Walter Connolly says:
Can anyone suggest what type of trailer I should purchase for wooden boats 8′ -18′ mostly plywood ?
Daniel Green says:
A possible improvement: run a separate ground wire from lights back to the plug at the truck along with the bundle of power wires. Eliminates the 3 separate ground connectors.
(Same as the magnetic lights mentioned above.)
William McIntyre says:
I used the same idea for about 8 to ten years. There is one difference. I want the lights to be at eye level for passenger cars and visible from above to semi drivers . I mount the light bar on the transom. No need for close encounters of the first kind. So far so good. Same light bar.
Robert Chan says:
Here is another idea I use when required to move trailers not properly maintained by their owners. Magnetic mount lights such as used by towing companies have come way down in price and their ground wire runs all the way to the vehicle plug. They just need a small flat steel area on the trailer. I also found they need to be vertical. Bumps and potholes will jar them loose if attached horizontally. In a free moment I might even attach a safety wire just in case.
Walter Allan says:
Get out of town! I am just replacing the trailer lights and now I know what to do!
Thanks Geoff.
Harry Hammond says:
A great solution, and inexpensive. I use a similar one …same 2×4, similar light kit, but has a license plate bracket included, which is mounted on the 2×4 as well. The 2×4 then mounts across the boat at the stern, which makes mounting and removal a little easier.
PATRICK LOUGHRAN says:
I hope you don’t use the same license plate for multiple trailers….
Harry Hammond says:
There ,may be those that do….
I have but one trailer.
