Mark Jack says:
We have a similar but earlier carvel planked Albury runabout in the Bahamas. What is most extraordinary is the ride of the vessel into a head sea. I would best describe this as typical of the motion of a heavy fine entry planing hull but as if it also had 6 inches of firm foam rubber fixed on the underside of the hull. No jarring. Other commentators have referred to a ‘magic carpet’ ride and whilst correct it is not sufficiently specific in my view. At say around 15kts vessel can comfortably proceed through 2-4 foot seas. Quite remarkable . Mark
Ben Mendlowitz says:
Yes I agree Mark, they are remarkably capable small boats. I have a great deal of confidence taking mine out in rough conditions, and even being able to shoot photographs as she works through the waves.
Joe Chada says:
Are plans for building the skiff available?
Ben Mendlowitz says:
Yes Joe, you can find them on Hylan & Brown’s web site:

David Tew says:
Hi Ben, Do I see a tilting wheel column at your helm? Do you find you use it much? And is your steering hydraulic or cable? Thanks.
Ben Mendlowitz says:
Hi Dave, no tilting steering wheel, didn’t know one was made but if so it might be handy for when I sit up ion the seat back. The steering is hydraulic and the helm stays put if you take your hands off the wheel, a great aid when I’m out shooting alone.

A Jamestown Distributors video about tilting wheel mechanisms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwkWzCXb-m4
Bill Sumner says:
GREAT video of interesting, well designed boat.
Thank you Bill Sumner and Susan Harrington
Neil Moomey says:
Neat boat!
Greg Morse says:
Had the good fortune to watch Willard build these on Man-o-War Cay in the 70’s and 80’s. Good to see he is being recognized for quality construction and gorgeous boats, perfect for the Abacos.
Andrew Fulton says:
Where can I find plans?
Steve Stone says:
Hi Andrew. Doug Hylan has plans I believe. Check out his Guide page for a link to his site.
David Tew says:
This one sold recently. Note the different cockpit layout: http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/pl_boat_detail.jsp?slim=broker&boat_id=2825144&checked_boats=2825144&hosturl=grayandgray&&ywo=grayandgray&&ybw=&units=Feet&access=Public&listing_id=1572&url=
David Tew says:
It’s carvel planked also so the design may be similar but not built in the Abacos, perhaps?
Ben Mendlowitz says:
Hi David, quite sure she is an authentic Albury. The older ones were all carvel planked before they switched to strip planking. That layout was also quite common, more so than Abaco’s seat lockers along the sides.
Ken Weinstein says:
Thank you, Benjamin, for sharing your skiff with us!
Peter Duncan says:
WOW!
