Amazing to watch this take place. Incredible skill and knowledge here that’s been passed from generation to generation. Sharing this information, even just a glimpse of it is very much appreciated.

  • Stewart Boyd says:

A wonderful and educational series. A quick question – what type of plywood is used for the lofting floor, and what type of dimensional material does Peter use for his station molds?

    • Peter Buxton says:

The lofting floor plywood is nothing special, just 3/4” pine plywood smooth side up and painted with flat white primer.
The station moulds are built out of 2×8 spruce framing lumber with 1×8 spruce cross spalls

      • David Heal says:

Is glue typically used to fasten the various pieces of a mould together or are screws alone used for fastening? Are the moulds typically stored for potential future use after a project is completed or are they disassembled for use elsewhere?

        • Peter Buxton says:

Yes I used yellow carpenters glue as well as screws to fasten the station moulds together.
No sense in disassembling the moulds. Save them just in case someone wants a boat just like this one.

  • Wayne Bartow says:

Once again ,excellent presentation and very smooth and clear instructions . Very well done , and will continue the to follow the process.

  • Ralph Eade says:

Come on Guys I need to get my rest and you put these videos on. when is V3 released?

    • Steve Stone

      Steve Stone says:

Sorry for messing with your well-being with these new videos, Ralph. Peter is building the boat as we speak, so we’ll be releasing these every few weeks as he builds. Hard to predict an exact schedule because this is a real deal situation, as it happens. We’ll certainly try not to let you go too long without a “fix”.

  • Robert Hagstrom says:

Absolutely amazing to watch how much work goes into lofting and making patterns. I cannot wait to view more episodes. This will help me and give me ideas to restore some areas of our 1905 Steamboat used for tours on Lake Minnetonka here in Minnesota.

  • Bill Theurkauf says:

Really looking forward to these! I loved Peter’s earlier series on spiling and installing floors for his restoration of the Nellie H. Check them out if you haven’t already. It would great to have a video update on her.

    • Peter Buxton says:

Thanks for asking about the Nellie, between covid and other issues the owner has had her on hold for quite some time but he was here this fall and wants to get back to work on her after this current project. She’s had quite a bit done since the last OCH videos but still has a ways to go.
      Peter

  • Julian Kuffler says:

This is great! Back to the basics and move right along.
    Thanks

I feel like this is my winter project. Just won’t get dirty. Thanks for doing this.

  • Mark Weber says:

Terrific idea! A real treasure to see this progress with the right people (person), place, design and pace. Thanks!

  • Ian Hendrie says:

Peter is an excellent teacher. I could see myself (many many years ago) happily apprenticing for him and learning a bunch. An excellent balance of art and design.

  • John Hodson says:

Excellent series, just the right pace and info.Well done!

  • Glenn Holland says:

I’m gonna LIKE this. Comes at a good time too. Think we’re going to have a cold one this year.
    thanks,
    Glenn/NC

  • Ed Altonji says:

I am sure many OCH members will agree watching such an iconic boat design build is going to be fun through this winter. So glad you finally made it happen!
