I have just mounted the molds and will start on transom next. I have sailed and powered 14 different boats in my 89 yrs. I built a small sailboat in my garage in Skowhegan, Me.I took it to Bowdoin and that is where I found out about the difference between lake sailing and ocean sailing. Particularly, about using a mooring which I had placed at low tide. When I returned the next day at high tide my boat was gone.I never saw it again.I needed a project when my wife is playing bridge. I think this will keep me busy for at least ten years. Earl Bridge

We just installed our 6 side planks & will next caulk, than start on the bottom planking. Having a lot of fun, but difficult to keep there attention as we are building at the Foundation of Youth Archaeological Park with a lot of people & distractions for them. Each in this series of videos fills me with joy and wonder. There is magic in bringing kids and boats together, guided by the sure hand of a fine teacher.

Fantastic! I look forward to each new episode. What are the proportions of boiled linseed oil, gum turpentine, Japan drier and pine tar? I remember the old timers putting on a first coat thinned to about 50%-50% or more, of boiled linseed oil and turpentine. They believed the thinner material would soak into the wood deeper. I have heard that the boiled linseed oil we get commercially today really isn’t boiled, but rather treated with drying additives. Do you know if that’s true?
