I’m currently undertaking a Marine Engine Driving Commercial qualification. I found this site by accident and subscribed straight away. The videos have been invaluable and I find it so much easier to understand than reading a book. Cheers guys.

Excellent series — worth the price of admission alone. I am using this series to develop 1) a periodic maintenance checklist, 2) a spare parts list, and 3) a troubleshooting chart for my engine.

Isn’t there a third possible cause of lose of anti-freeze? Couldn’t a bad heat exchanger cause the anti-freeze to leak into the raw water and out the exhaust?

      Jon Bardo says:

Yes you are correct, also you can pressuerize the cooling system ,up to the caps pressure rating , hopefully making the leak easier to locate. Engine coolant exiting the exhaust is a sure sign of a leaking heat exchanger. An overflowing sight glass could be a defective expansion tank cap . JCB

This is one of my favorite series…thanks for putting this together. I have a simple little Yanmar YSE8 on my Bristol 24, and this has really helped me to familiarize myself. I’m looking forward to the fuel system videos.

Great videos and I am learning a lot about Marine Diesel engines that I was not aware of before.

I have a Yanmar 1GM10, which only has raw water cooling. Wondering how to maintain and troubleshoot that system.

On occasion flush with fresh water , change the zinc , and examine the water pump impeller. Don’t forget to check the drive belt!! JCB
