A man who is comfortable with his boat! I love the slight scraping of the boom on the rocks.

  • Dick Galland says:

Oh boy, that’s a joy ride in pretty little dinghy. Anybody know the maker and the model?

Hi Dick – it’s a Ranger Minto, and there are more specifics in the Navigate Further section below the video.

  • Bruce Debree says:

Nice. Like the sound, awesome scenery, and the close proximity of the surroundings. Love my dink.

Anyone heard of a Jaeger 15 ??? Designed and built 32 of them many years ago, wished I kept one.
Fiber glass lay up, seat all round, One mast and one sail can sail it, row it or put a small outboard on the . We sold them for $1500 including trailer.

  • Russ Manheimer says:

Thanks, blood pressure just down a few points. Lovely slow sailing.

  • Seymour Hamilton says:

I’d like to know a bit more about the dinghy. Who made it? Are there plans? Does someone make them, and where?

      Nate Rooks says:

      Hi Seymour –

Dinghy info added to Navigate Further. Mintos regularly come up on Craigslist out here in Washington, usually ranging between $1-2k depending on condition, parts, and materials. Happy to answer any other questions if you have them.

  • Winston Shaw says:

Probably not as scenic as Maine but not half bad either. As to dinghy sailing itself in more than 50 years of boating I don’t think I’ve ever had more fun than sailing a 10′ Cape Cod Shipbuilding Beverley Dinghy! All the very special joys of sailing with none of the expensive, time consuming complexities of bigger boats. How well I can remember sailing my little dinghy through anchored fleets of expensively complicated sailing craft whose owners tracked my carefree progress with expressions of envy. As Water Rat once noted in Wind In The Willows, “Believe me my young friend there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in (tiny) boats!”

  • Rick Pratt says:

    gorgeous gunkholing area!

That lug rig is a good ghoster.

but those rocks make you pay attention!

    Rick

  • Rick Lapp says:

Just watched it while anchored on Block Island. Thanks!

  • Rod West says:

Great vids. Reminds me of taking my Catalina 22 up a bayou in La. and going till the mast would not fit under the cypress trees or I would run aground. No rocks though,

      • Jim Jones says:

Walsh Cove on Redonda. I dinghied through that little passage this summer .

Yessir! And shhhhhh, it’s our favorite! We ended up enjoying multi-night stays there rather than running around too hard.

  • Bruce Parker says:

    Lovely!
Would be great to watch on a mid-February Winter day, repeatedly.

  • Philip Cronshey says:

Beautiful! I watch this video and others like it and am reminded, this is why I spend all my free time building this boat :) I hope to explore the coast of BC in great depth in my Ness Yawl in the making. Thanks so much for sharing this with us, cheers.

  • Dave Elliott says:

Fond memories of my PT11. Sailing dinghies is the purest form of sailing!

  • Julian Kuffler says:

Great! Slow August with a little tension and resolution.

  • Chris Callahan says:

Yup. That’s it. Putting the Shellback on the trailer.
