Just an outstanding video. The second to last segment with the rock face looked like 3-D. And that was on my phone! The final shot shows one of the best uses for a drone I’ve ever seen. Thank you.
Michael Meyers says:
Looks like Howdy has a carbon fiber mast now. Curious if you had issues with the birds-mouth mast or just wanted to cut down on weight. I just finished laminating the stems of my Caledonia yesterday.
David Tew says:
I’ve always wanted to see the beach at Roque Island, so thanks Steve! For others who wish to see something like it there’s Roque Bluffs State Park nearby, a sandy crescent beach with convenient parking and a fresh water pond nearby for rinsing off. I came across it when going to pick up a row boat that washed up there. Delightful! https://www.google.com/maps/@44.542225,-67.5029641,6487a,35y,38.12t/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en-US

Nowhere else on the internet will you find over 5 uninterrupted minutes of the most exquisite silence of nature on the water. It’s masterful. Congratulations. And thank you.
John McDougall says:
Absolute tranquillity. Well done.
Raymond Harrop says:
Lovely video and noticed you have very big tides in Maine. I live on the South East coast of Australia at Bermagui on the Pacific ocean – tides only about 1 metre here.
Dennis H says:
Very chill – but why do have the mainsail reefed?
Steve Stone says:
Good eye, Dennis. Part lazy, part logic. I’ve started keeping one reef in much of the time as my default for this rig. In very light air like this daysail I’d normally shake that reef out, but the wind was forecast to be more once I got around to the open bay where the beach is and I figured I might be motoring or rowing to get out of the protected anchorage and around to the open bay. I like a reef in for rowing and motoring cause I can set the sail/boom a bit higher to get it overhead and out of the way. But mostly, I had it reefed from the sail the day before, and knew I’d likely be reefing with the wind forecast for the sail back to Jonesport the next day . . . so was just too lazy to shake it out and put it back. This boat sails just about as well and fast with a reef in as it does without in most cases, often with a lot less action if it’s gusty, so I like a reef in, especially when other people aboard or cocktails or coffee are being served.
Lester Garnier says:
Looks like she is moving by nothing more than your own breath. Thanks for a calming video well done.
George Conbeer says:
Thanks, Steve. Made this morning’s coffee taste even better.
Julian Kuffler says:
Hi Steve
So nicely done.
I have eased off for now
Thanks
Julian

The definition of “Serene and Tranquility “
Absolutely beautiful….love the circling around the boat at the end….wonderful conclusion!
Ralph Eade says:
Hi Guys I was out last week on the Gold Coast Australia getting a prescription refilled at our local chemist (drug Store) when a lady tapped me on the shoulder asking for a photo of my back? I had forgotten that I was wearing the August “Start off Slow ……..its Summer” tee shirt so the word is being spread around. She did not want me sign an autograph or exchange phone numbers so I took off slowly for my next appointment – after all it was still August.
Steve Stone says:
Well done, mate.
carey harmon says:
beautiful
Ian Douglas says:
Your videos are always good, Steve, but this one has made an excellent, calming start to my day. Thanks!
Chris Kleinfelter says:
So serene, it inspired me to write this:
In a small boat
moving easily on
the soft morning air
the shore passes
at a walking pace.
Ripples form like lace
and tap a message,
sotto voce, on the planks.
These gentle lyrics
blend with birdsong
to tell me the day
is complete
before it’s even begun
and I have no need
to go ashore
ahead of the setting sun.
Steve Stone says:
Wow. Thanks for this, Chris.
Charles Reed says:
Looks like Roque Island. Have been there several times over the 40 plus years of sailing the Maine coast. First time we could go ashore and climb to the top of the bluff at the east end of the beach. What a view of the whole beach. Beautiful video. Thanks.
John Williams says:
Couldn’t hear any audio, even though volume is up.
Steve Stone says:
There are four little gray/blue bars on the bottom/right of the playbar on the video, John. They should be all blue, so if not, click the far right one to turn up the volume on the player (assuming the volume on your device/speakers is up too).
Conbert Benneck says:
A wonderfully soothing video. The only thing missing is the pop of the closure on a beer can you just opened. Ah, what a beautiful relaxed day of sailing.
Steve Stone says:
Martini, Conbert. Thanks for the tip, will have to include the shaking/chilling next time.
Steve Crowder says:
Great video. Thanks
Michael Werneburg says:
Instead of saying, wish you were here, I say, I wish I was there! Very tranquil and peaceful. Looks like a nice place to row my 12 ft acorn skiff when I get it completed. But it is way too far for me to go, but I will row on the Hudson River, Saratoga lake and many other peaceful places.
Ed Altonji says:
Simply beautiful
Peter Anderson says:
I shall carry the images throughout the day and be grateful.
Tom Greaves says:
Thank you for this. The visuals are beautiful and I commend the person who edited the sound — well done.
Chris Noto says:
Nice! A reminder for me, far inland, in the metro Atlanta area, that the beastly August heat will not last forever, and that, some time in the next month or so, I’ll be able to get out in my own small boat! Thanks for the video.
