  Looks like Howdy has a carbon fiber mast now. Curious if you had issues with the birds-mouth mast or just wanted to cut down on weight. I just finished laminating the stems of my Caledonia yesterday.

  I’ve always wanted to see the beach at Roque Island, so thanks Steve! For others who wish to see something like it there’s Roque Bluffs State Park nearby, a sandy crescent beach with convenient parking and a fresh water pond nearby for rinsing off.   Lovely video and noticed you have very big tides in Maine. I live on the South East coast of Australia at Bermagui on the Pacific ocean – tides only about 1 metre here.

    Good eye, Dennis. Part lazy, part logic. I’ve started keeping one reef in much of the time as my default for this rig. In very light air like this daysail I’d normally shake that reef out, but the wind was forecast to be more once I got around to the open bay where the beach is and I figured I might be motoring or rowing to get out of the protected anchorage and around to the open bay. I like a reef in for rowing and motoring cause I can set the sail/boom a bit higher to get it overhead and out of the way. But mostly, I had it reefed from the sail the day before, and knew I’d likely be reefing with the wind forecast for the sail back to Jonesport the next day . . . so was just too lazy to shake it out and put it back. This boat sails just about as well and fast with a reef in as it does without in most cases, often with a lot less action if it’s gusty, so I like a reef in, especially when other people aboard or cocktails or coffee are being served.

  Hi Guys I was out last week on the Gold Coast Australia getting a prescription refilled at our local chemist (drug Store) when a lady tapped me on the shoulder asking for a photo of my back? I had forgotten that I was wearing the August “Start off Slow ……..its Summer” tee shirt so the word is being spread around. She did not want me sign an autograph or exchange phone numbers so I took off slowly for my next appointment – after all it was still August.

  Looks like Roque Island. Have been there several times over the 40 plus years of sailing the Maine coast. First time we could go ashore and climb to the top of the bluff at the east end of the beach. What a view of the whole beach. Beautiful video. Thanks.

    There are four little gray/blue bars on the bottom/right of the playbar on the video, John. They should be all blue, so if not, click the far right one to turn up the volume on the player (assuming the volume on your device/speakers is up too).

  Instead of saying, wish you were here, I say, I wish I was there! Very tranquil and peaceful. Looks like a nice place to row my 12 ft acorn skiff when I get it completed. But it is way too far for me to go, but I will row on the Hudson River, Saratoga lake and many other peaceful places.
