Elliots, four beautiful sandy beaches just south of Whangamumu, Northland New Zealand, world famous now :) -35.275564, 174.289709

  • Brent Williams says:

How awesome was that! Thank you for sharing, such beautiful coast.

  • Darrian Gourdine says:

With this being my birthday (the 12th), I am inclined to re-evaluate my choice or residence.
I am currently in SC and Maine seems to be more my speed at this stage in my life.
Maynard has confirmed what many have told me; Now, show me how to handle the winter and I am all in.
Originally from the Northeast by birth and I do miss having four seasons and I need a maritime life with less exposure to “Credit Card” captains
Thanks Guys for all you do and the inspiration to seek a Salty Life!

    David Tew says:

Wow. I could spend all day and a night on that beach.

    • Joseph Wl Haley III says:

Yea ! but this water is no swimming hole !! Cold!!

      • Joseph Wl Haley III says:

Forgot to mention that I lived in Maine for 5 years. Water to cold for this ‘Cracker’.

    • Jonathan Steel says:

Or on the sand of the long shore of SouthUist.

  • Ray Scarfe says:

Beautiful NZ, but my guess not filmed in August? Usually you would seek the sunshine not the shade.

  • Richard MacKinnon says:

I think you said it perfectly before: Start off slow then ease up. It’s August.

  • Tim Langley says:

Thanks OCH. Pacific blue, golden sands, Pohutakawa trees; clearly filmed on the East coast in the North of New Zealand.

  • Dennis Miczulski says:

Spanish aphorism–How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then to rest afterward–certainly a way to look at “Slow August”

  • Roxy Darling says:

Watching and listening to a Slow August video is like being sung to sleep by a beautiful voice singing a lullaby.

  • Burke Horner says:

Kind of reminds me of the Morro Rock on Morro Bay, when I used to be able to run along the beach, two hips ago. Maynard, you have that leisure portion down to a science! Well done, Laddie!

  • Bruce Parker says:

It appears Maynard has good grip on how he should spending his time when not actually on the water! My guess is this was filmed in New Zealand, way to lush for the Maine coast.
    Wonderful short film.
    Keep up the great work!

  • Bill Saunders says:

Where was this filmed? I recognized Maynard but that doesn’t look like Maine to me, at least not the few parts I have seen.

  • Dave Simonds says:

Maynard, So many memories. So long ago, So many thanks. OCH- so good for me.

  • Graeme Harrison says:

Hi , thanks for letting me have a nice time looking around and showing me the sites of the harbour where you are based. All the Images and boats are so great 😁 thanks for that.
I am in the middle of starting to build my own 11’ sailor/rowing boat It’s a great size for me and just right for my future sailing around the Sandgate area of south-east Queensland Australia.
It’s called an Oonagh or Arriba by the designers of this magnificent small sailing boat. It has everything you can think of and I am really keen to get started on her.
Thanks to Kate from offcenterharbor for your great videos you have made when you made one in your shop. I am really looking forward to hearing back from anyone involved in making one of these great design single hull sailing rigs. Thanks again, Graeme, from Esk Queensland.

  • Tom Keefe says:

Reminds me of one of my favorite books as a kid: “How To Do Nothing With Nobody All Alone By Yourself”…easy to lose that suspension of time in today’s frantic world. Thanks for reminding us of all the spaces in between! Good day to go sailing – think I will!

  • Bob Van Pierce says:

Always a good idea to sit back and enjoy the beauty around us, we’ve had a beautiful day like this one today, and its August in NZ. Thanks for reminding me why we are here on a small island in the bottom of the South Pacific. cheers to all…

    • Ben Tombs says:

and then… It blew! Gales here now on Northland NZ. Time to be patient and wait for gentle winds and warm seas.
