A “soul sailor” (coined today by OCH) is a sailor who sails for the sheer pleasure of sailing. Although they may still enter races occasionally, winning is not the soul sailor’s main motive, since they scorn the commercialization of sailing. The term denotes a spirituality of sailing. (The term is borrowed from Soul Surfing, coined in the 1960’s.) We’ve found that many soul sailors appreciate the grace and practicality of small sailboats like the Caledonia Yawl.

“Soul Sailing” Right on. My last boat was called “Soul Mate” because sailing is good for the soul. And that Caledonia Yawl? I love that boat. Would sure be happy to see some of them in these parts and have them join in “The Elbow Run, our annual sailing/camping week on the Canadian prairies. It looks like a perfect boat for the event.

Thanks for reminding me how great sailing small boats can be.

If you come to FL be sure and check with our West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron. Google WCTSS for our schedule of events and past outings. We have a CY in our group now.

I took Geoff Kerr’s Caledonia Yawl boat building class years ago and enjoyed it and sailing his boat.

What a great video! I can’t imagine a better way to be on the water.
It looks as though they’ve chosen the perfect boat, too. Has anyone ever had a bad thing to say about the Caledonia Yawl?

Does Barb and Harris’s boat have a well for an outboard motor?
I’m interested in a Caledonia yawl with a outboard well for a small outboard.

Yes, it does have an engine well and engine Jim. Pretty handy. We should put a little clip of that in Nav Further so you can see it.

What a promotion for the lifestyle and this vessel in particular. My CY is 75% done…only 80% left to finish. Thanks.
