I asked Doug Hyland about the side seats. He said fine, but suggested making the mast 6″ taller. Obviously, not a retrofit option.
thomas mitchellParticipantThis is the interior. Mahogany knees and oarlock pads blended with the fir. I didn’t need the full padding and I prefer the wood and removeable bumpers. I extended the center seat aft so I didn’t have to sit on the floor. They work fine except the back aligns with the oarlocks.

First I have to say I’m glad that you had a good time at the Woodenboat Show. I grew up in CT and have been to Mystic many times, including the Show twice. Sorry about the hurricane. Regarding trailering, my first launch was at Lake George. We had at least a couple of hundred pounds of extra gear in the boat since we were going to my daughter’s camp. As I recall the boat trailered fine. The gear was probably equal to a couple of kayaks. I’m thinking that I’m going to have a professional replace my springs. I’ll post a solution if it works.
thomas mitchellParticipantNice job Doug! In hind site, I wish that I did the spacers on the in-wails because they provide more places to tie on things like bumpers.
thomas mitchellParticipantLaunched “Encore” a few days ago on Lake George, NY. She rows reasonably well and sails very well. Pleased with the stability and her ability to tack efficiently. Happy about her ability to deal with the chop from powerboat wakes. She stayed mostly dry when we hit the second wave head-on, although obviously lost virtually all headway in light air. Sailing around the bay we got lots of compliments, which were due to Doug’s design as much as my construction. The picture me and my son and our two goldens, around 500 lbs. She handled to load well.
thomas mitchellParticipantGot the trailer from a dealer that sells a lot of jet skis.
thomas mitchellParticipantBoat looks great, I think we have the same green. I also got my sail from Doug Fowler. I grew up in Wolcott near Waterbury.
